RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC) has showcased a model of stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) to locate epileptic seizures in the brain.

The model, one of today’s most advanced diagnostic tools in neurology, is being presented at the Global Health Exhibition 2025 in Riyadh, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.

Stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) allows doctors to accurately identify where epileptic seizures originate within the brain, enabling highly targeted treatment plans and improving patients’ quality of life.

The procedure involves implanting ultra-fine electrodes directly into the brain with the assistance of an advanced robotic system.

These electrodes record neural activity from multiple regions, generating a detailed 3D map that pinpoints the onset and spread of seizures.

This information helps surgeons plan safer, more precise procedures while protecting critical functional areas.

At the KFSHRC pavilion in the exhibition, visitors can experience an immersive, hands-on simulation in a virtual environment.

The simulation demonstrates how electrodes are implanted and how real-time brain signal analysis supports clinical decision-making—showcasing how intelligent technologies are transforming the diagnosis and treatment of complex neurological disorders.

Recognised among the world’s leading institutions, KFSHRC in Riyadh was ranked by Newsweek’s World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2026 among the top 150 hospitals globally in neurology.

This distinction highlights its excellence in advanced neurological care and reinforces its global leadership in neuroscience.

Continuing to drive innovation, KFSHRC remains at the forefront of integrating cutting-edge technologies into patient care.

It serves as a national reference center for neurology and precision robotic surgery, advancing intelligent models of care that seamlessly connect scientific research with clinical practice.

KFSHRC has also been ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa and fifteenth globally among the world’s top 250 academic medical centres for 2025 and recognised by Brand Finance as the region’s most valuable healthcare brand.
