On Sunday, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan spoke by phone with European Union Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell to discuss what must be done to end the violence in Sudan.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, both leaders emphasised the importance of reducing tensions in Sudan and providing security for the country’s inhabitants and residents.
Borrell tweeted that he and Prince Faisal both wanted “to continue collectively pushing for an immediate ceasefire.”
To paraphrase, “We share concerns on military escalation.” Furthermore, he stated, “Protection of civilians is a priority.”
Both leaders talked about how to improve world security and discussed recent regional and global developments.
Media reports indicated that fighting was still going on in Khartoum on Sunday, with the sound of automatic gunfire being heard around the city and Sudanese military planes roaring overhead.
In the wake of the violent unrest, many nations are scrambling to remove their nationals and ambassadors from Sudan.
