RIYADH: Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Climate Affairs Envoy of Saudi Arabia, Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, on Sunday met with Csaba Korosi, the president of the 77th UN General Assembly.
The discussions centered on the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts in environmental preservation, climate change mitigation, and the promotion of renewable energy.
During the meeting, particular attention was given to the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative, which aim to drive sustainable practices and combat climate change.
The two sides exchanged views on various environmental initiatives and discussed ways to enhance cooperation in achieving shared goals.
Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Wasel, was present at the meeting, underscoring the Kingdom’s commitment to international engagement and collaboration.
Prior to this meeting, President Korosi also held talks with Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan on pressing regional and global crises, including the situation in Sudan.
Prince Faisal highlighted Saudi Arabia’s joint efforts with the United States in supporting pre-negotiation talks in Jeddah, which called for a ceasefire and urged the conflicting parties to seek a peaceful resolution.
The discussions between President Korosi and Prince Faisal also touched upon the Palestinian issue, with the prince reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support for a two-state solution.
UN General Assembly president emphasizes importance of cooperation
Expressing his views on Twitter following the meeting, President Korosi emphasized the importance of partnership and cooperation in resolving conflicts not only in Sudan and Syria but also beyond.
Csaba Korosi was elected as the president of the 77th UN General Assembly on June 7, 2022. At the time of his election, Prince Faisal congratulated him and expressed his best wishes for a successful tenure.
In another development, the foreign ministers of the Arab League held a meeting in Cairo on Sunday, during which they adopted a decision to readmit Syria into the organization after a suspension lasting more than a decade.
Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Wasel, and the senior advisor for multilateral international relations, Dr. Abdullah Al-Tayer, were in attendance at the meeting, reflecting the Kingdom’s active participation in regional affairs.
The meetings with President Korosi and the engagement within the Arab League demonstrate Saudi Arabia’s commitment to multilateral cooperation and diplomacy in addressing pressing global challenges and promoting regional stability.
