RIYADH: The Saudi Arabian Football Federation took a significant step on Monday by submitting a letter of intent to bid for the hosting rights of the FIFA World Cup 2034.
Last week, Saudi Arabia had announced its ambitions to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
Yasser Al-Misehal, the president of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF), stated in a statement that the Kingdom is committed to delivering a world-class tournament. He emphasized that their bid draws inspiration from Saudi Arabia’s remarkable social and economic transformation, as well as the nation’s deep-rooted passion for football.
Yasser Al-Misehal further added that submitting the letter of intent marks the second step of an immensely exciting journey that the nation is embarking on. He stated, “The 2034 FIFA World Cup bid is our way of inviting the world to witness Saudi Arabia’s development, immerse themselves in its culture, and become a part of its history.”

Officials had previously highlighted that Saudi Arabia’s bid was underpinned by the Kingdom’s growing experience in hosting top-tier football events. Additionally, Saudi Arabia has plans to welcome fans from around the world for the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
Reflecting on the bid, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman emphasized that Saudi Arabia’s aspiration to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup mirrors the Kingdom’s progress across all sectors.
It is worth noting that Morocco, Spain, and Portugal will host the 2030 World Cup, with the opening matches taking place in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay.
