WASHINGTON: Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal Bin Farhan has stressed upon the need for an independent Palestinian state to end violence in the region.

According to Saudi Foreign ministry statement, he made the remarks during an interview with CNN that aired on Sunday.

“Everybody agrees that the only way to get out of this cycle of violence is to inevitably be on this path to a Palestinian state, and that’s absolutely necessary, and that’s what we’re focused on” he said.

“But if we are just resetting to the status quo before October 7th, in a way that sets us up for another round of this, as we have seen in the past, we’re not interested in that conversation,” said Foreign Minister.

He was of the view that we need to focus on is a solution for the Palestinian issue, not just for Gaza.

Prince Faisal Bin Farhan said what is most disturbing is that there is no real strategic direction, any real clear strategy, and this is very dangerous.

He strongly believed that the key to de-escalation right now is ending the conflict in Gaza because that’s feeding all of this instability in the region.

“We are in a very difficult and dangerous time in the region, and that’s why we are calling for de-escalation”, Foreign Minister said.

The local health ministry in Gaza says more than 25,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 62,000 wounded in Israeli attacks on the region since October 7.
