DUBAI: The international premiere of “Hajjan,” a movie based in Saudi Arabia and directed by Egyptian filmmaker Abu Bakr Shawky, was held this week at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“Hajjan” narrates the tale of Matar, a young boy embarking on a desert journey alongside his trusty camel, Hofira.

This cinematic creation is a collaborative effort between Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) and Egyptian producer Mohamed Hefzy’s Film Clinic.

Before the premiere, Hefzy expressed his sentiments to Ithra, stating, “I believe that the feedback today will be highly positive. I have great confidence in the film. I usually approach festivals and premieres without many expectations, but today, I am quite optimistic.”

Hefzy also shared his excitement about watching the movie for the first time on the big screen, complete with sound, the final mix, special effects, and color edits, all within the ambiance of a cinema filled with an audience.

The film’s screenplay is credited to Omar Shama from Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Mufarrij Almajfel. It features Saudi actors such as Abdulmohsen Al-Nemer and Ibrahim Al-Hsawi.
