RIYADH: The Saudi Falcons Club is going to organize Al-Mellwah race October 7 to 12 at its headquarters in Malham, north of Riyadh, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
According to the SPA, the event is part of the club’s current efforts to preserve the heritage of falconry and pass it on to next generations. In the race, falcons will also compete to cover a distance of 200 meters in the shortest possible time, qualifying them to participate in the King Abdulaziz Falconry Festival, the SPA added.
The SPA maintained that this year’s race will feature a specific category of “farkh,” including Hur, Shaheen, Gyr Shaheen, Gyr Pure, Gyr Taba, and Mathlooth Gyr. It added that a total of SAR750,000 in prizes will be distributed among the 18 winners in each of the six rounds.
Club spokesperson Walid Al-Taweel further said that Al-Mellwah race will coincide with the International Saudi Falcons and Hunting Exhibition starting on October 3 with the participation of over 400 exhibitors from 45 countries.
