MAKKAH: A Saudi eye association has launched a specialized medical campaign to provide free cataract removal surgeries for pilgrims to improve their vision and overall well-being.

The programme aims to significantly enhance pilgrims’ vision and overall quality of life during their spiritual journey, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.

The campaign is a collaborative initiative involving several hospitals and specialized medical centres across the Makkah Region. It is supervised by an experienced team of Saudi consultants and ophthalmologists.

The campaign focuses on treating severe visual impairment caused by cataracts, providing comprehensive, cost-free care — including initial examinations, diagnosis, surgical procedures, and post-operative follow-up.

The association emphasised that this campaign underscores its strong humanitarian commitment to pilgrims, continuing its voluntary efforts to combat blindness and visual impairment.
