NEW YORK: Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Eng. Abdulrahman Alfadley, the upcoming President of UNCCD COP16, has met with the high-level advisory council members for COP16 in the US and discussed the conference’s preparations, which will be held in Riyadh this December, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.
The council, composed of former President of Finland Tarja Halonen, former President of Senegal Macky Sall, former President of Costa Rica Carlos Alvarado, former President of Colombia Iván Duque, CEO of the Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND) Nasser Alkahtani, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Roche Holding André Hoffmann, and environmental activist Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim, discussed mobilized global efforts to address land degradation and the drought impacts on the planet.
Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Cabinet Member, and Climate Envoy Adel Al-Jubeir was also present in the meeting which took place on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly high-level week in New York.
