RIYADH: The Saudi Embassy in Morocco has said that it is monitoring the situation after the quake that struck Marrakech region on Friday night, Arab media reported on Saturday.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the embassy confirmed safety of Saudi nationals and asked them to follow the directives of crisis management officials in the country. The SPA said that it is also coordinating with Moroccan officials to evacuate nationals from quake-hit region.
The embassy extended its deep condolences and sympathy to the government and people of Morocco after the quake.

The death toll from the 6.8-magnitude quake had risen to 1,037 by Saturday, with over 1,200 wounded.
