Saudi Defense Minister Meets with Blinken: SPA

WASHINGTON: The Saudi Minister of Defense, Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz has held meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, at the headquarters of the U.S. Department of State in Washington, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.

Upon arriving at the headquarters of the U.S. Department of State, Defense Minister Prince Khalid wrote down a statement in the official visitors’ book on this occasion, the SPA added.

According to the SPA, during the meeting, they reviewed the close strategic ties between the two countries and explored means to enhance them. The two Ministers also discussed joint efforts and coordination aimed at de-escalating the current situation in the region.

Moreover, the two sides also discussed areas of cooperation between their friendly nations, contributing to their shared vision of supporting regional and global security and stability, the SPA said.

Attending the meeting from the Saudi side were Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, the Saudi envoy to the United States.; Assistant Minister of Defense for Executive Affairs, Dr. Khalid bin Hussein Al-Bayari; the Saudi envoy to Yemen, Mohammed bin Saeed Al Jaber; and the DG of the Minister of Defense’s Office Hisham bin Abdulaziz bin Saif, the SPA reported.

From the US side, the meeting was attended by the National Security Council coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa, Brett McGurk; U.S. Special Representatives for Yemen, Tim Lenderking; Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Henry Wooster; and other top officials.
