RIYADH: Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz on Monday departed for the US on an official visit, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
According to a statement from the Royal Court, the visit is being carried out upon the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and in response to the invitation extended to Prince Mohammed bin Salman by US President Donald Trump.
“During the visit, the Crown Prince will meet with the US President to discuss bilateral relations and ways to enhance them across various fields, as well as issues of common interest,” it said.
It is pertinent to mention that President Donald Trump visited Saudi Arabia on May 13, his first official state visit of his second administration, as he did with the first, signaling the importance he placed on strengthening ties with the Kingdom.
Agreements worth $300 billion were signed during the visit, and the Crown Prince noted that the Kingdom is exploring $600 billion in investment opportunities, with hopes of increasing this figure to $1 trillion.
The two countries also signed memoranda of understanding in the fields of energy, defence, mineral resources, and health, along with a strategic economic partnership.
During the visit, President Donald Trump announced the lifting of all sanctions on Syria at the behest of Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in a huge boost for Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa as he seeks to stabilise a country shattered by war.
