RIYADH: Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Saturday discussed regional developments with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Jeddah.

The two leaders exchanged greetings on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, expressing hopes for continued prosperity and progress for their countries and the wider Islamic world, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

During the meeting, the leaders emphasised that repeated Iranian attacks targeting Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, including critical and civilian infrastructure, constitute a serious escalation and a direct threat to regional stability.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi reiterated Cairo’s strong condemnation of these attacks and affirmed Egypt’s unwavering support and solidarity with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the Kingdom in protecting its sovereignty and security.

The discussions were attended by senior officials from both countries, including ministers, intelligence chiefs, and ambassadors. President El-Sisi departed Jeddah later the same day and was seen off by the Crown Prince, SPA reported.

Earlier, Saudi Arabia’s armed forces shot down dozens of drones as Iran intensified strikes on Gulf energy infrastructure following Israel’s bombing of Iran’s South Pars gas field earlier this week.

A series of Saudi defence ministry posts on X showed the 51 drone attacks concentrated on the Kingdom’s Eastern Province — home to its major oil fields and refineries. A total of 92 drones have been intercepted since Friday.

The latest figures bring the total number of drone strikes targeting Saudi Arabia to at least 575 since February 28, according to a tally based on defence ministry reports.

In addition to the drones, Saudi air defences have intercepted 42 ballistic missiles and seven cruise missiles over the same period, underscoring the sustained and varied nature of the aerial campaign against the kingdom.
