RIYADH: Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has discussed some of the earliest ideas around the design of Saudi Arabia’s megacity of the future The Line, and what the project means to the country and the world.
The ambitious modern city is part of the Kingdom’s flagship development project of NEOM, in the north of the country, and reimagines what urban living should be like this century.
Saudi Arabia wants to create a new civilization for the future and urged nations to act similarly to bulid a better planet, the crown prince said in an interview on Monday.
In documentary, he sopke about how the design idea behind the city project came to be and what it will eventually mean for the kingdom, according to Arab News.
He said that the Kingdom has an empty place, and it wants to have a place for ten million people.
The crown prince added that they talked about many ideas in this regard. After brainstorming and a the best designers for ideas’ competition, one design option stood out.
City look unveiled by crown prince in 2022
The look of the city was unveiled by the Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman in 2022, who said the design would clarify the multi-layered city’s internal structure and address the issued of traditional flat horizontal cities.
He said the Saudi population in 2030 is likely to be between fifty and fifty million, from the current thirty-three million. In 2030, the nation going to reach the full capacity of the existing infrastructure of the kingdom, which required the creation of the new city.
The crown prince added that the Line will tackle the challenges of urban life. The livability and environmental crises could not be ignored the world’s cities are facing today.
