RIYADH: Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz held a series of phone calls on Sunday with global leaders to discuss the escalating situation in the region after recent attacks on Iran.

Prince Mohammed bin Salman spoke with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of the Kingdom of Bahrain; Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of the Sultanate of Oman; Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of the State of Qatar; and Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah of the State of Kuwait, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

He also received a phone call from President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates.

The discussions centred on recent regional developments and the consequences of the Israeli attack on Iran, including today’s US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

The leaders highlighted the unity of GCC member states amid these critical circumstances and stressed the importance of restraint, avoiding further escalation, and resolving all disputes through diplomatic channels.

The Saudi Crown Prince also received a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni of Italy.

They discussed developments in the region and the repercussions of the escalation of tensions in the region following the US strikes.

Prince Mohammed bin Salman, during the calls, reaffirmed the Kingdom’s firm position, calling for the utmost restraint, the avoidance of escalation, and the resolution of all differences through diplomatic means.

Earlier, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the unprecedented strikes have wrecked Iran’s nuclear programme.

The surprise strikes threaten to deepen conflict in the Middle East after Israel launched a bombing campaign against Iran, with Tehran vowing to retaliate against US involvement.

US President Donald Trump late on Saturday announced successful strikes on three underground nuclear facilities at Fordo, Isfahan and Natanz.

“We devastated the Iranian nuclear programme,” Hegseth told a Pentagon press briefing.
