RIYADH: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman unveiled plans for the development of the Imam Faisal bin Turki Royal Reserve, emphasizing its vital role in addressing global environmental challenges. This initiative is part of a series of royal reserves established by the Kingdom, aiming to provide solutions to pressing environmental issues.
The Crown Prince’s royal decree has paved the way for the establishment of the Imam Faisal bin Turki Royal Reserve, spanning key administrative regions in Saudi Arabia, including Asir, Makkah Al-Mukarramah, and Jazan. Notably, this reserve extends into the Kingdom’s territorial waters, marking it as the eighth royal reserve in Saudi Arabia.
The primary objective of this expansive reserve is to conserve environmental and biological diversity. It is designed to support sustainable ecosystems, boost plant productivity, and safeguard endangered species. Encompassing an impressive area of 30,152.7 square kilometers, the reserve showcases a diverse range of landscapes, including sea, coast, peaks, plains, deserts, and valleys. It is also home to a rich variety of animal, fish, and plant species, enhancing its environmental significance.
Saudi Crown Prince Says Reserve to Support Life
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman emphasized that the biological diversity of the reserve would contribute significantly to supporting all forms of life within its boundaries.
“We are determined to develop our natural resources, enhance the quality of life within Saudi territory, upgrade infrastructure, promote the sustainability of non-oil economic resources, and create more job and investment opportunities in the Kingdom,” stated the Crown Prince.
In addition to its environmental significance, the Imam Faisal bin Turki Royal Reserve holds cultural importance. Its unique fusion of arts, architecture, and popular folklore reflects the distinctive identities of the regions it covers. Ranking as the third-largest royal reserve in Saudi Arabia, this reserve stands out due to its diverse topography and geography, making it a remarkable natural asset for the Kingdom.
