RIYADH: The Saudi Cabinet has welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan and the establishment of mechanisms to consolidate lasting peace and stability between the two nations.

Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the cabinet session held in Riyadh on Tuesday, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The ceasefire was reached this weekend during talks in Doha, mediated by Qatar and Turkiye, following a week of heightened hostilities along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border.

A follow-up round of negotiations between the two countries is scheduled to take place in Istanbul on October 25.

During the session the Saudi Crown Prince briefed the cabinet about the phone call he received from French President Emmanuel Macron, during which they discussed developments in the Gaza Strip and stressed the urgent need to end the humanitarian suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people, secure a full Israeli withdrawal, and agree on the importance of initiating practical steps to achieve a just peace based on the two-state solution.

The cabinet reaffirmed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting regional and international efforts aimed at promoting global peace and security.

It also welcomed the agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan on an immediate ceasefire and the creation of mechanisms to foster lasting peace and stability between the two nations.

Following the session, Minister of Media Salman Al-Dossary, in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, said the cabinet reviewed development plans across various government sectors.

Particular focus was given to initiatives that enhance the quality and efficiency of public services, improve project productivity, and effectively utilise available resources and capabilities to support sustainable development and build a prosperous future.

The cabinet also commended the launch of the King Salman Gate project, noting that it represents a significant shift in the development of infrastructure in Makkah’s central area.

The project aims to establish Makkah as a global model of urban planning and will be a major contributor to providing high-quality services to Grand Mosque visitors, aligning with the objectives of the Pilgrim Experience Programme.
