Saudi Cabinet Condemns Coup Against Niger’s President Bazoum

JEDDAH: The Saudi cabinet has expressed its rejection of last week’s coup against Niger’s President Mohamed Bazoum and called for the prioritization of the national interests of Niger to halt the military escalation.

The coup, which marked the seventh military takeover in West and Central Africa within three years, has garnered condemnation from the African Union, the UN, the EU, and other international powers.

Saudi Cabinet Reviews Outcomes of OIC Meeting

During a meeting chaired by King Salman, the cabinet also reviewed the outcomes of an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The meeting focused on addressing the repeated desecration of copies of the Holy Qur’an in Sweden and Denmark. The Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to promoting dialogue and respect between peoples and cultures while rejecting any spread of hatred and extremism. It urged the international community to uphold these principles.

Additionally, the cabinet discussed recent talks between Saudi Arabia and several countries aimed at strengthening relations and partnerships. It expressed satisfaction with the positive results achieved through ongoing economic and financial reforms, stating that these efforts were driving comprehensive growth and strengthening the Kingdom’s economy.
