Saudi Cabinet Cheers Successful Operation to Remove Oil from Decaying Tanker

RIYADH: The cabinet of Saudi Arabia on Tuesday welcomed the completion of the UN’s operation to remove oil from a decaying tanker in the Red Sea, Arab media reported.

The UN on Friday announced that it had successfully removed more than a million barrels of oil from the FSO Safer, averting an environmental disaster.

Saudi Arabia, that has been making efforts to remove the oil said it valued the work of the UN.

During the weekly meeting chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah, the Cabinet reiterated interest in boosting economic ties with different countries of the world under Saudi Vision 2030 and the extraordinary opportunities it entails in different areas.

It also applauded the agreements signed between Saudi Arabia and various countries and Latin America in this regard.

The ministers backed the Kingdom’s emphasis, during the second G20 Anti-Corruption Ministerial Meeting held India, on the success of the Riyadh Initiative for Enhancing International Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Cooperation.

They also praised the the joining of over 161 anti-corruption agencies from 90 countries to the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE Network), a Saudi initiative.

The Cabinet praised the outcomes of the international Islamic conference hosted by Saudi Arabia to promote unity in the Islamic world.  The conference played an important to enhance cooperation between Islamic countries in combating extremist ideas and promoting values of tolerance and coexistence.
