RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Qassim Region is reviving its cultural roots through innovative youth-led initiatives that have transformed traditional houses and farms into heritage attractions, drawing visitors throughout the year.
This blend of tradition and modernity not only enhances the cultural significance of the region but also boosts its economic value, supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals of promoting domestic tourism and preserving national identity, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
In Buraidah and several other governorates, numerous projects have rehabilitated historic buildings, converting them into cafes, restaurants, and hospitality venues that reflect the region’s heritage.
These efforts have coincided with a growing interest from tourists and cultural enthusiasts eager to experience Qassim’s local traditions firsthand.
Heritage expert Shaker Al-Humaid noted that in recent years, there has been a growing interest in restoring old houses and farms, turning them into unique hospitality venues, museums, and heritage sites.
These initiatives not only preserve the legacy of past generations but also promote rural tourism.
He emphasised that the rising awareness of national heritage among young people has driven efforts to revive folk arts, traditional cuisine, and handicrafts, offering visitors an immersive cultural experience that reflects Qassim’s identity and rich historical roots.
These projects have rejuvenated historic neighborhoods, highlighted mud-brick architecture and traditional decorations, and created distinctive tourist spaces celebrating the region’s heritage.
By engaging local communities in sustainable preservation efforts, they contribute to community development while attracting tourism investment. Moreover, support and resources provided by government bodies and municipalities have helped maintain the heritage character of historic towns, enhancing their appeal to visitors.
