ABHA, Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid University has ranked high in the 2024 Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, with three of its faculties among the top 200 universities across the world, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Sunday.
The university achieved this status due to its efforts to develop academic programmes and promote scientific research and innovation.
The Saudi research institute was ranked 101–150 internationally in mathematics and metallurgical engineering, and 151–200 globally in energy science and engineering. These achievements demonstrate its role in providing innovative scientific solutions to address energy challenges and achieve sustainability.
The university also reached notable rankings in instrumentation science and technology, as well as in the agricultural, veterinary, and oral sciences.
The SPA reported the university kept its presence within the 301-400 range in disciplines such as mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, and pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences.
University Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Dr. Hamid bin Majdoua Al-Qarni said that these results mark a transformational milestone in the university’s journey toward academic and research excellence.

He emphasised the university’s commitment to fostering a robust research environment and supporting innovative research programmes that contribute to providing practical scientific solutions for local and global communities.
The Shanghai Ranking Consultancy has recently announced the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2024, representing one of the most comprehensive and objective rankings of world universities by subjects.
This year’s league table includes rankings of universities in 55 subjects across Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences. More than 1,900 universities across 96 countries and regions are finally listed in the rankings.
Harvard University remains the best-performing institution, earning a total of 14 crowns while MIT tops in 4 subjects. Tsinghua University from China leads in 3 subjects, while Princeton University and the University of Chicago from the United States, along with the University of Oxford from the United Kingdom, each have 2 subjects ranked No. 1 in the world.
