ALULA, Saudi Arabia:  Saudi Arabia’s ancient oasis city of AlUla is fast becoming a global hub for film tourism, attracting international productions with its dramatic landscapes and rich historical heritage.

Films and television series have increasingly become influential factors in shaping travel choices, with visual productions casting a spotlight on destinations and their distinctive landscapes.

This global trend is vividly reflected in AlUla, where interest in filming locations for both local and international productions continues to grow.

Visitors now enjoy a unique fusion of on-screen storytelling and real-world exploration—an experience at the heart of film tourism, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.

Over recent years, AlUla has witnessed sustained momentum in audiovisual production. In 2025 alone, 83 projects were filmed across the region, including feature films, documentaries, television programmes, commercials, music videos, and short films.

This follows a robust 2024, during which 85 productions—ranging from feature-length films and reality programmes to documentaries and advertising campaigns—further solidified the area’s reputation as a dynamic filming hub.

AlUla’s growing portfolio of cinematic works now includes a number of high-profile productions. Among them are Saudi films that have premiered at international festivals, projects that have opened local film festivals, and major global productions.

Together, these works have not only elevated AlUla’s standing as a top filming destination but have also created expanded opportunities for national talent to take on key roles within production crews.

These productions are part of an integrated ecosystem led by Film AlUla, a strategic initiative aimed at developing the film industry while forging strong linkages with the tourism sector.

The initiative provides a comprehensive support infrastructure that includes diverse natural filming locations, streamlined regulatory processes, and full-scale logistical services—enabling filmmakers to execute all stages of production within the governorate.

At the heart of this ecosystem are AlUla Studios, a state-of-the-art production facility designed to meet international industry standards.

The complex features world-class soundstages and recording studios, dedicated outdoor backlot areas, set construction workshops, and customizable workspaces and production offices.

Supporting facilities include dressing, makeup, and costume rooms, alongside an advanced recording studio.

Together, these capabilities allow for seamless filming, recording, and post-production in an environment that uniquely combines technical excellence with the region’s breathtaking natural landscape.
