RIYADH: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) is making huge efforts to combat the financing of Daesh, Saudi Arabia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan said on Thursday.

Speaking at a joint news conference with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken following a ministerial meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh, the Minister said that threat of the terrorist group is not limited to Sahel nations, but rather extends to the entire world.

The Foreign Minister said Riyadh is working with African countries to confront terrorist outfits and that it has a responsibility toward the African region as a significant source of cooperation. Saudi Minister said that it is unfortunate that developed nations are denying to take back their nationals from Syria’s Al-Hol displacement camp that houses families of Daesh fighters, including foreigners.

He said that Beijing was a key partner for Riyadh and the region, but affirmed the strength of Riyadh-Washington ties during the conference and said Saudi Arabia continues to develop military and security ties with the United States.

On the occasion, the US Secretary of State expressed his appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s contributions to the alliance against Daesh terrorist group, and said that Washington is working closely with Riyadh on the situation in Yemen.

He added that Riyadh is leading diplomatic campaigns for a truce in Sudan and the delivery of humanitarian assistance. The US top diplomat said that Riyadh is witnessing remarkable development and has embarked on a massive and historic effort to revolutionize its economy. Blinken said that the US ties with Gulf nations are important to Washington.  The US Secretary of State met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and vowed to work together to advance security, stability, and prosperity across the region and beyond during his visit.
