RIYADH: The Saudi embassy in Lebanon has issued a statement urging its citizens to leave the country and avoid areas experiencing armed conflicts. The advisory, posted on Twitter late on Friday, warned Saudi nationals against being present in regions with ongoing violence and demanded their swift departure from Lebanese territory.
The statement also emphasized the importance of adhering to the Saudi travel ban to Lebanon. The move comes amid heightened tensions and security concerns in the region.
The United Kingdom has also updated its travel advice for Lebanon, advising against “all but essential travel” to parts of the country’s south near the Palestinian camp of Ain El-Hilweh. This decision comes in the wake of recent clashes in the camp between the mainstream faction Fatah and hardline Islamists on July 29, resulting in the deaths of at least 13 people, mostly militants, according to security sources.
Largest Palestinian Camp in Lebanon
Ain El-Hilweh is the largest of the 12 Palestinian camps in Lebanon, accommodating around 80,000 Palestinian refugees out of an estimated 250,000 countrywide, as reported by the United Nations’ agency for refugees from Palestine.
As security concerns persist, both Saudi Arabia and the UK are taking measures to safeguard their citizens and ensure their well-being during these volatile times in Lebanon.
