RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has unveiled the design for the King Salman Stadium, a colossal 92,000-seat venue that will become the centerpiece of the FIFA Men’s World Cup 2034.

The unveiling of the ambitious stadium, which will be located in Riyadh, marks a significant step in the Kingdom’s broader efforts to position itself as a global sports and entertainment hub.

The Saudi Ministry of Sports released a promotional video showcasing the stadium’s cutting-edge design, created using computer-generated imagery.

According to Sports Business Journal, the stadium is slated for completion by the fourth quarter of 2029.

Once finished, it will serve as the main base for the Saudi national football team and will be part of a sprawling sports complex that includes an indoor sports hall, an Olympic-sized pool, and additional facilities aimed at elevating the country’s athletic infrastructure.

Saudi Arabia is widely expected to win the right to host the FIFA World Cup 2034. The Kingdom was the only country to submit a formal bid before the 2023 deadline, making its victory all but assured.

The King Salman Stadium will be one of several state-of-the-art venues built in anticipation of the tournament, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s commitment to transforming its sports landscape under the Vision 2030 initiative.

Designed by the renowned architectural firm Populous, the stadium promises to be a game-changer in global sports infrastructure.

The project is one of many being undertaken as part of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious plan to diversify its economy and elevate its cultural profile.

The King Salman Stadium will feature a range of luxury amenities, including a Royal Box, 300 VVIP seats, exclusive hospitality suites, and over 2,200 VIP seats.

Aesthetically, it will blend modern design with nature, with green walls and rooftops that will integrate gardens and walking paths. Visitors will also be able to enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding King Abdulaziz Park from the stadium’s rooftop promenade.

This mega-project is not the only major development underway in the Kingdom. In addition to the King Salman Stadium, the Kingdom is also designing three other key venues for the 2034 World Cup: Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium, King Fahad International Stadium, and Aramco Stadium. Together, these venues form part of a larger plan to construct 11 new stadiums across Saudi Arabia in time for the tournament.

The King Salman Stadium will not only be a hub for international football but also serve as a symbol of Saudi Arabia’s ambition to become a leading player in the global sports arena.
