RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates on Monday strongly condemned the Iranian missile strikes on the US military base in Qatar.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia condemns and denounces in the strongest terms the aggression launched by Iran against the brotherly State of Qatar, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and the principles of good neighbourliness,” Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

“It is unacceptable and cannot be justified under any circumstances,” it added.

“The Kingdom affirms its solidarity and full support for Qatar and is deploying all its capabilities to support Qatar in all measures it takes,” it said.

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates denounced in the “strongest terms” an attack by Iran against Al Udeid base in Qatar.

The UAE “condemns in the strongest terms the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s targeting of Al Udeid Air Base in the sisterly State of Qatar, considering it a flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace,” Abu Dhabi’s foreign ministry said in a statement carried by official news agency WAM.

Earlier, Iran launched missile attacks on a US military base in Qatar in retaliation for the American bombing of its three nuclear facilities amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, The Associated Press reported.

Iran announced on state television that it launched an attack on American forces stationed at Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base.

Qatar’s Defence Ministry said its air defence had successfully intercepted the missile attack on Al-Udeid Air Base, which resulted in no deaths or injuries.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, in a statement on X, said, “We express the State of Qatar’s strong condemnation of the attack on Al Udeid Air Base by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, and consider it a flagrant violation of the State of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace, as well as of international law and the United Nations Charter.”
