RIYADH: The Saudi Space Agency is set to host the Space Debris Conference in Riyadh from January 26 to 27, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The conference will also host the final round of the global DebriSolver competition, one of the flagship initiatives of the Saudi Space Agency (SSA), designed to promote scientific and technological innovation and develop practical solutions for space debris challenges, while advancing the sustainability of the space environment.

The competition has drawn strong international participation, with around 2,000 innovators, researchers, and startups from 40 countries taking part, highlighting both the global significance of space debris and the need for coordinated international efforts to address it.

The DebriSolver competition aims to attract innovative ideas and practical solutions that help mitigate the risks of space debris, enhance the safety of space operations, and promote the long-term sustainability of activities in low Earth orbit, using orbital tools and data provided by specialised companies.

After a rigorous evaluation process, the top 20 teams have been shortlisted to advance to the final stage, where their solutions will be showcased as part of the conference’s exhibition.

The competition is organised in partnership with leading global companies in space and debris-related technologies, including Astroscale, LeoLabs, Slingshot Aerospace, and Aldoria, demonstrating effective collaboration between the public and private sectors to drive applied innovation in the space industry.

DebrisSolver reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting research and innovation, empowering global talent, and promoting the role of technological solutions in protecting space as a shared resource for humanity, contributing to a safe and sustainable space future, and supporting the growth of the global space economy.

By hosting the conference, Saudi Arabia reaffirms its leading role in supporting international space initiatives, strengthening public-private partnerships, and shaping the future of the global space community.
