RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and Sudan have reviewed the latest developments in the African nation and the efforts being made to achieve security and stability in the country.

Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on Monday met with President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and his accompanying delegation, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

During the meeting at Al-Yamamah Palace, the two sides discussed the latest developments in the Sudan and their implications.

Minister of Defence Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of State, Cabinet Member, and National Security Advisor Dr. Musaed Al-Aiban, Minister of Finance Mohammed Aljadaan, and Saudi Ambassador to Sudan Ali bin Hassan Jafar were also present in the meeting.

Since breaking out in April 2023, Sudan’s civil war has killed tens of thousands and displaced nearly 12 million, creating what the UN describes as the world’s largest displacement and hunger crisis.

Saudi Arabia has been actively involved in Sudan through diplomatic efforts, facilitating talks, and providing humanitarian aid, as it seeks to end the conflict and restore stability.

In September, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan took part in a quadrilateral meeting on Sudan with the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and the United States.

Held on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, the meeting focused on developments in the Sudanese crisis and the need to coordinate efforts to address humanitarian challenges.

Participants also discussed implementing the commitments of the Jeddah Declaration, including the protection of civilians and ensuring Sudan’s stability while preserving its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
