Saudi Arabia, IOM Sign Deal to Protect Victims of Human Trafficking

ISLAMABAD: President of Saudi Arabia’s National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking and that of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri inked a deal with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) on the second phase of a project to boost Saudi Arabia’s efforts in protecting victims of human trafficking.

A regime of measures has been agreed upon such that the victims’ integration and rehabilitation are guaranteed.

Dr. Al-Tuwaijri said that the deal is part of Saudi Arabia’s measures to stem human trafficking and enhance means of protecting and preventing victims through international and national cooperation.

Further, she said that measures to fight human trafficking crimes, outlined in the committee’s national action plan, mirror Saudi Arabia’s strong commitment to protecting victims.

In reply, the head of the IOM Mission in Bahrain Mohammed Al-Zarqani said that human trafficking is a criminalized offense worldwide and that for combatting it a full-fledged cooperative approach is needed.

Al-Zarqani added that the IOM lauds Riyadh’s actions for protecting human trafficking victims.
