RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, reiterated his country’s call for de-escalation in Sudan during a meeting with Special Envoy of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council’s President, Dafallah Al-Haj Ali, in Riyadh on Sunday.

The two officials discussed the ongoing deadly clashes in Sudan between forces loyal to the army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which have been ongoing for three weeks and have claimed over 500 lives, leaving thousands wounded and tens of thousands displaced.

The Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of prioritizing national interest to save lives and preserve Sudan’s gains. He urged all parties involved to de-escalate the situation to prevent further violence and instability in the country.

Saudi Arabia seeks to play role in promoting regional peace

The meeting comes as Saudi Arabia seeks to play a role in promoting peace and stability in the region.

The clashes erupted on April 15, and have since raised concerns among regional and international leaders about the stability of Sudan. The crisis has also led to a growing humanitarian crisis, with tens of thousands of people displaced from their homes and in need of assistance.

The meeting between the Saudi Foreign Minister and the Sudanese envoy is seen as a significant step towards addressing the ongoing conflict in Sudan. It is hoped that the international community can work together to bring an end to the violence and promote a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

The meeting comes amid growing concerns about the stability of Sudan and the impact of the conflict on the wider region.
