KUALA LUMPUR: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has reaffirmed the Kingdom’s call for collective international action to achieve a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue, one that guarantees the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Prince Faisal made the remarks while addressing the second summit between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), held in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
He was leading the Saudi delegation on behalf of Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The foreign minister affirmed that the gathering marks a significant step forward in the ongoing cooperation journey that began with the inaugural GCC–ASEAN Summit in Riyadh in 2023. That summit laid the foundation for an ambitious partnership that strengthened economic and trade ties and opened new avenues for collaboration in energy, education, security, and innovation.
“We meet today to deepen this partnership with the inclusion of the People’s Republic of China,” Prince Faisal stated.
He reiterated the Kingdom’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable long-term economic growth that benefits all segments of society while preserving environmental balance.
“We aim to accelerate the transition to low-carbon, clean, and renewable energy sources and to leverage China’s Belt and Road Initiative to enhance regional connectivity and integration between ASEAN and GCC countries. We also seek to advance the digital economy by empowering startups, expanding public-private partnerships, and promoting people-to-people exchange programs to build resilient, innovation-driven, and inclusive economies,” the Foreign Minister added.
He highlighted that under Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia is dedicated to creating an attractive investment climate, promoting trade, and eliminating obstacles to commercial exchange. He expressed the Kingdom’s ambition to deepen cooperation across key sectors of mutual interest, with the goal of establishing a long-term strategic partnership that benefits all parties and enhances their global stature.
In conclusion, he reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s call for united efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive resolution that upholds the rights of the Palestinian people, in line with international law and the Arab Peace Initiative. He also reiterated the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at ending the war in Ukraine and achieving a lasting, peaceful settlement.
