Saudi Arabia Participates in Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development Annual Gathering

RIYADH: The Governor of the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Mohammed Saud Al-Tamimi, participated in the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development annual meeting, arranged on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The meeting was aimed to enhance the contribution of the communications, technology, and space sectors to attaining sustainable development objectives, propose recommendations and policies to bridge the digital divide, as well as remote and develop the digital economy, Saudi Press Agency reported.

High-level officials from different government and industrial sectors worldwide participated in the gathering where they discussed a range of important matters, including the role of investment and finance in bridging the global digital divide and connecting about 2.6 billion people offline worldwide. They also addressed obstacles and challenges in the digital environment.

Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development

The Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development is co-chaired by Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame and businessman Carlos Slim and vice-presided over jointly by the secretary-general of the International Telecommunication Union and the assistant director-general for communication and information at UNESCO.

The commission also includes a number of decision-makers influential in the sector of communication and technology and top officials in governments and industrial sector from around the world.
