DOHA: Saudi Arabia left the Football World Cup 2022 with bittersweet memories of Lusail Stadium.
Despite exiting Qatar-2022 at the very site of their morale-boosting victory over Argentina few days back, the Saudi players and supporters showed the world why the fans will remember them during the remainder of the tournament. The Lusail Stadium — a striking architectural masterpiece — is where Saudis’ World Cup journey got steam and the players sprang to life in a fashion with that ever-joyous win over Argentina in their opening game. The game will be remembered for generations.
SA World Cup journey

Sadly, they lost game 2 to Poland as they could not follow up the victory against Argentina with win against Mexico in game three. So it was at the Lusail Stadium on Wednesday night that their campaign came to a somewhat anticlimactic end. But after the match, Saudi fans showed why they will be missed during the rest of the tournament. The Saudi fans brought the Stadium to life and the party did not end with the end of the play. They took defeat as normal and were in joyous spirits after the game. They spilled over onto Lusail Boulevard to celebrate what was their modern footballing coming of age. There were as many Saudi fans outside as inside.
At Wednesday night, Mexico treated Saudi Arabia exactly as the Saudis treated Argentina on match day 1, scoring 2 goals in a 4-minute time in the opening 10 minutes of the second 45-minutes. The stadium which saw the Saudi team off has become an iconic Football World Cup Stadium. It has a capacity of nearly 90,000 fans. The final will be played here in a little over two weeks time as the fans would be sitting right on top of the action.
