RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has launched programmes to distribute dates and iftar for those fasting during the Holy month of Ramadan in Herzegovina and Bosnia, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

According to Arab News, the initiative was launched by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance at the Saudi Embassy in Sarajevo. The launch was held at the King Fahd Cultural Center in the presence of the Grand Mufti of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr Husein Kavazovic, Saudi Ambassador Osama bin Dakhil Al-Ahmadi and Amer Al-Onzi, a religious attache at the Saudi Embassy.

The two programmes include providing 20,000 iftar meals for citizens breaking their fasting and distributing ten tons of dates to charities and Islamic centres in Herzegovina and Bosnia.

Kavazovic said that he appreciated the Saudi king’s and crown prince’s continuous support of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its people. He added that the King and Crown Prince are especially interested in Islam and Muslims worldwide, including this valuable annual gift. The SPA reported that the ministry launched a similar project in Jordan on Wednesday at the Saudi embassy in Amman.

Abdullah Al-Dulaij, the Islamic counselor in charge of the embassy, said the programme was an extension of the Saudi leadership’s long history of helping Muslims in need worldwide. He praised the ministry’s efforts to implement the programme to the fullest and Saudi-Jordanian relations.

Iftar programme aims to distribute 12,500 meals

The programme aims to distribute 12,500 meals to various Jordanian governorates, Palestinian and Syrian refugee camps, charities, orphanages, divorcees, and widows. Five tons of luxury dates will also be distributed, as well as 5,000 copies of the Qur’an issued by the King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Qur’an in Madinah.
