ISLAMABAD:  Saudi Arabia on Friday launched the third phase of its Food Security Support Project in Pakistan for the year 2025, reaffirming its strong commitment to humanitarian aid and bilateral cooperation.

At a ceremony held in Islamabad, Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki formally handed over 30,000 food baskets for distribution among underprivileged communities across the country.

The initiative is being carried out by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) in coordination with Pakistan’s federal and provincial authorities.

This initiative follows the successful completion of the first two cycles, during which 60,000 food packages were distributed in 61 districts of Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Al-Malki stressed the strong and enduring bonds between the two brotherly nations. “It is my pleasure to represent the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in this honourable ceremony. This project reflects the unwavering support of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, for the people of Pakistan,” he added.

He reaffirmed the Kingdom’s unwavering support for Pakistan in times of need, emphasising the significant role played by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) in delivering humanitarian assistance globally, including in Pakistan. He noted that the centre has been consistently involved in a wide range of welfare projects across the country.

Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, who attended the ceremony as the chief guest, expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s generous support and thanked the Saudi leadership for their continued solidarity with the people of Pakistan.

He said the programme to distribute humanitarian aid is a testament to the strong brotherly relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

The event concluded with prayers for peace, prosperity, and the further strengthening of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
