Saudi Arabia Keen to Host 2034 FIFA World Cup

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has announced its intent to bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.

The bid led by Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) wants to host a world-class tournament inspired by Saudi Arabia’s ongoing social and economic transformation and the country’s passion for the game of football.

Saudi Arabia’s inaugural FIFA World Cup bid is backed by the Kingdom’s experience of hosting world-class maga football events and its ongoing plans to host the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup and 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has stressed that Riyadh’s desire to bid for the 2034 FIFA World Cup reflects the country’s progress in all areas.

Saudi Arabia a global destination for major sports events

Saudi Arabia has emerged as a leading hub and global destination for hosting major events due to its rich cultural heritage, economic strength and the ambition of its people.

Under Vision 2030, sport is playing an important role in contributing to the Kingdom’s economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for all. Saudi Arabia has planned to provide a unique experience and an event that brings joy to fans across the world.

Saudi Arabia has overall hosted more than 50 international events for both male and female athletes including football, motorsports, tennis, equestrian, esports and golf since 2018.

Saudi Arabia has also qualified for FIFA World Coup on six occasions since 1994 – most recently in 2022.

Minister of Sport and President of the Saudi Arabian Olympic and Paralympic Committee Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal, has said hosting a FIFA World Cup in 2034 would help the country to achieve its dream of becoming a leading nation in the world of sport.

President of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) Yasser Al Misehal has stated the time is right for Saudi Arabia to host the FIFA World Cup.

Saudi Arabia a young nation with over 70% of its population under the age of 35, is home to one of the strongest leagues in Asia, the Saudi Pro League (SPL).
