RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has expressed the hope that the recent Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace will strengthen efforts toward regional stability and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud chaired the Saudi Cabinet session held in Riyadh on Tuesday, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The Saudi cabinet observed that the summit hosted by Egypt would ensure a full Israeli withdrawal and initiate practical steps to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Leaders of the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkiye on Monday signed a declaration in Sharm el-Sheikh to serve as guarantors of a Gaza ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas aimed at ending two years of devastating Israeli military offensive that has killed at least 67,869 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023.
The agreement, reached after weeks of high-level negotiations, outlines a framework for maintaining the ceasefire, rebuilding war-torn Gaza, and setting parameters for future political talks between Israeli and Palestinian representatives.
The Saudi cabinet also stressed the urgent need for an immediate cessation of the war in Sudan, stressing the preservation of the country’s unity and institutions. The cabinet called for sparing Sudan and its people from further suffering and destruction and urged the implementation of the Jeddah Declaration signed on May 11, 2023.
In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency following the session, Minister of Media Salman Al-Dossary said the cabinet reviewed recent developments in joint committees between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and several brotherly and friendly nations.
The review focused on the progress of bilateral efforts to strengthen ties, broaden areas of cooperation, and advance mutual interests across various sectors.
The cabinet also highlighted the positive outcomes of the Kingdom’s hosting of multiple international meetings and forums. In particular, it praised the successful organization of the 25th Scientific Forum for Hajj, Umrah, and Visit Research, held under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
The forum was commended for its innovative initiatives aimed at improving the quality of services provided to pilgrims.
Additionally, the Cabinet welcomed the launch of the MENA Asset Recovery Inter-Agency Network, describing it as a practical step toward establishing a robust framework to enhance regional capabilities in combating corruption and money laundering.
