DAMASCUS, Syria: Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), has provided a grant of 1,650,000 barrels of crude oil to Syria.

The initiative is taken under the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Thursday.

SFD CEO Sultan Al-Marshad and Syrian Minister of Energy Mohammed Al Bashir signed a memorandum of understanding to formalise the grant.

The initiative aims to support the operations of Syrian refineries, with a focus on achieving both operational efficiency and financial sustainability.

It is intended to stimulate economic development, help address ongoing economic challenges, promote the growth of key sectors, and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The grant underscores the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to improving the living conditions of the Syrian people, reflecting the strong and growing ties between the two nations.

It is pertinent to mention that last month, Saudi Arabia participated in the Damascus International Fair, during which the Saudi companies signed an agreement and six memoranda of understanding with Syria’s Ministry of Energy to enhance cooperation in the energy sector.
