GAZA: A newly established camp by the Saudi aid agency, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) in the Al-Qarara area, north of Khan Younis, is providing much-needed shelter and stability to dozens of female-headed households in the Gaza Strip.

The initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing fundraising campaign to support the Palestinian people amid the worsening humanitarian crisis, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Friday.

The camp serves as a secure refuge for women who have been solely responsible for their families while facing severe hardships.

Many children expressed relief upon arrival, gaining a sense of stability for the first time in months. The relocation comes at a critical time, as a recent storm demolished the families’ previous tents, leaving them exposed to the elements.

The displaced families voiced profound appreciation for the assistance, saying that the Kingdom’s support has helped restore their sense of safety and dignity.

The United Nations has warned that Israel’s war in Gaza has ravaged the Palestinian territory’s economy and is threatening its very survival. The UN called for “immediate and substantial” international intervention.

Rebuilding the Gaza Strip will cost more than $70 billion and could take several decades, the UN Trade and Development agency (UNCTAD) said in a new report, warning that war and restrictions had triggered an “unprecedented collapse across the Palestinian economy”.
