MAKKAH, Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia has showcased its world-class water management system, ensuring uninterrupted access to clean water for Hajj pilgrims across all holy sites. Over 1.5 million pilgrims performed Waqoof-e-Arafah on Thursday during Hajj 2025.

The Kingdom’s operational plan, overseen by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, guarantees water supply and sanitation services to support the health, safety, and comfort of pilgrims during the peak days of Hajj, one of the world’s largest religious events.

Under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the Kingdom’s national water system has finalised its operational readiness plan, designed to meet the massive demand.

During peak days water supply exceeds one million cubic metres per day, with an average daily pumping of 750,000 cubic metres.

This effort covers all key locations, including Makkah, the Grand Mosque, and the holy sites of Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah.

The operation is guided by rigorous standards of reliability, environmental responsibility, and public health safety.

The plan is the result of months of meticulous preparation, including the completion of 18 major infrastructure projects.

These projects enhanced the Kingdom’s water distribution networks, expanded strategic storage, upgraded pumping stations, and improved wastewater treatment capabilities, ensuring resilience and efficiency across the system.

Saudi Arabia’s water infrastructure for Hajj now includes a desalinated water transport capacity exceeding 1.2 million cubic metres per day, supported by a 1,300-kilometre transport network.

Pumping stations are operating at 125% efficiency, and over 32,000 public restrooms have been fully inspected and prepared for use by pilgrims.

Maintaining water quality is a top priority. Advanced treatment plants with a combined capacity of 750,000 cubic metres per day adhere to strict environmental and health standards.

More than 4,000 laboratory tests are conducted daily to ensure safety and cleanliness using cutting-edge monitoring technologies.

Field operations are equally robust. The Saudi Water Authority has logged over 2,000 hours of on-site inspections in recent weeks, ensuring seamless performance during Hajj.

More than 2,000 engineers and technicians -from the National Water Company, Water Transmission and Technologies Company, the Saudi Water Partnerships Company, and the Saline Water Conversion Corporation—are on the ground managing operations.
