RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has delivered the first shipment of crude oil grant to Syria with a tanker carrying approximately 650,000 barrels of oil arriving at the port of Banias, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.
This shipment marks the first installment of a 1.65-million-barrel crude oil grant.
The delivery follows directives from the Saudi leadership, reaffirming the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting the Syrian Arab Republic.
The grant agreement was signed on September 11 between Saudi Arabia—represented by the Saudi Fund for Development—and Syria’s Ministry of Energy.
Implemented under the supervision of the Saudi Ministry of Energy, the grant aims to boost the operation and efficiency of Syrian refineries, support financial sustainability, strengthen economic development, address ongoing economic challenges, and promote the growth of key sectors.
It also contributes to national and international efforts toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The grant shows the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to improve the living conditions of the Syrian people, rooted in the strong and historic ties between the two countries.
