NEOM, Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet has strongly condemned the decision of the Israeli “occupation authorities” to fully occupy the Gaza Strip and their continued acts of starvation and brutality against the Palestinian people, warning that such actions threaten regional and global peace.
The Saudi Cabinet emphasised that the continued failure of the international community and the UN Security Council to stop these attacks and violations undermines the very foundations of international order and legitimacy, poses a threat to regional and global peace and security, and risks serious consequences, including the potential encouragement of genocide and forced displacement, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.
Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, chaired the Cabinet session held in NEOM.
The Crown Prince briefed the Cabinet on his meeting with King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of Jordan, during which they reviewed the ties between their countries, as well as several issues on the Arab and Islamic fronts, with particular focus on recent developments in Palestine.
He also briefed about his phone call with President Mahmoud Abbas of the State of Palestine, who praised the Kingdom’s steadfast support for the Palestinian people and their just cause and its efforts under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, which have contributed to the commitment of many countries to recognise the State of Palestine.
In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency, Minister of Media Salman Al-Dossary said the Cabinet welcomed Australia’s intention to recognise the State of Palestine and New Zealand’s consideration of a similar move.
The Cabinet praised the growing international consensus supporting the implementation of a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Cabinet also strongly condemned the Israeli occupation authorities’ full takeover of the Gaza Strip and their ongoing acts of starvation, brutal practices, and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people.
On international matters, the Cabinet reviewed the recent phone call received by the Crown Prince from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
It reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s firm commitment to supporting efforts aimed at resolving the Ukrainian crisis, achieving peace, and promoting dialogue between the involved parties.
The Cabinet welcomed the announcement of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, expressing hope that it marks the beginning of a new phase of mutual understanding, cooperation, and strengthened security and stability between the two nations.
It noted that such progress would benefit both peoples and contribute to greater peace in the Caucasus region.
Additionally, the Cabinet reviewed the Kingdom’s participation in the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries held in Turkmenistan.
It underscored the importance of bolstering international cooperation to address regional and global challenges, foster economic stability, and advance sustainable development.
