NEW YORK: Saudi Arabia has stressed the need for collective international action to advance global water security and translate multilateral commitments into tangible results supporting public health, food security, economic development and climate resilience.
The position was conveyed during a high-level ministerial session titled “United for Water: A Call for Collective Action”, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and Senegal in collaboration with the Global Water Organisation on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Friday.

The gathering brought together ministers, senior officials, multilateral development banks and United Nations agencies, along with leaders from the water sector.
Growing pressures on water resources
Dr Fahd Balghunaim, Head of the Founding Team of the Global Water Organisation, said the session addressed growing pressures on water resources, with discussions focusing on aligning funding with priority needs, scaling up high-impact innovations, improving access to data and strengthening institutional capacity for implementation.
Participants reviewed national strategies for resilience, sustainable funding mechanisms, and scalable cross-border partnerships, underscoring the Global Water Organisation’s role as an institutional platform connecting governments with essential financing, technical expertise, and operational coordination.
