The Saudi Food and Drug Authority said that the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture had issued directives to collect samples of all sea products, including shrimp imported via the border crossings.

The authority maintained that after the testing, it was discovered that the shrimp products imported from India contained the virus and subsequently the officials decided to impose a temporary ban on its import.

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority said that the ban will continue until the India provides a complete and sufficient guarantee to ensure the safety of the sea products exported to the KSA so that the virus does not spread into the fisheries in Kingdom. It is noteworthy that disease is extremely lethal and transmissible, killing shrimp quickly.
