RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has welcomed the statement issued by 26 global partners calling for an immediate end to the Israeli war on Gaza Strip, lifting all restrictions on humanitarian aid, and the swift and safe delivery of humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza.

The Kingdom’s Foreign Ministry in a statement on Tuesday also expressed rejection of any demographic change in the occupied territories and of expanding settlements.

It reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s unequivocal rejection of the continued inhumane practices by the Israeli occupation authorities, including the obstruction of humanitarian aid and targeting civilians as they attempt to access basic necessities such as food, medicine, and water.

The Kingdom urged the international community to swiftly take practical steps to address ‘Israeli intransigence’, which deliberately prolongs the crisis and undermines all regional and international peace efforts.

It may be recalled that 25 countries and the European Union have issued a joint statement demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, calling the humanitarian situation “unacceptable” and placing direct blame on the Israeli government for obstructing aid and violating international law.

“We urge the parties and the international community to unite in a common effort to bring this terrible conflict to an end, through an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire,” reads the statement.

“The suffering of civilians in Gaza has reached new depths,” the joint statement reads.

The statement was signed by the Foreign Ministers of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK.

It is also backed by the EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management.

15 Palestinians died of starvation

Meanwhile at least fifteen people, including four children, have died of malnutrition and starvation in Gaza in the past 24 hours, the Palestinian Health Ministry in the besieged enclave said on Tuesday.

The latest fatalities brought the number of deaths from malnutrition to 101, with 80 of them children, since October 2023.

According to the Government Media Office in Gaza, approximately 650,000 children are at risk of dying from hunger and malnutrition, while around 60,000 pregnant women face severe threats due to the lack of adequate food and essential healthcare.

Since October 2023, Israel’s military offensive in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of over 59,000 Palestinians, the majority of them women and children.

The ongoing conflict has caused widespread devastation, crippled the healthcare system, and led to acute food shortages across the region.
