RIYADH: A Saudi delegation led by President of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority Mazin Al-Kahmous is attending the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE Network) Plenary Meeting, in Beijing, China, between September 24 and 27, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.
Speaking at the meeting, Al-Kahmous thanked China for hosting this important event, which comes at a time when the network seeks to exert more efforts to address crimes including illicit use of virtual currency and money laundering.
He stressed the Saudi leadership’s commitment to enhance cooperation to fight transnational crimes of corruption, in order to pursue corrupt individuals and track the funds obtained through their crimes, stressing the Kingdom’s support for the GlobE Network’s endeavor to realize its objectives.
He said that the authority has benefited from the GlobE Network, which enables cooperation with counterpart agencies.
GlobE Network is an initiative launched by the Kingdom during the G20 Summit ministerial meeting hosted by Saudi Arabia in 2020. It was officially adopted by the UN on December 17, 2021, during the ninth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, held in Egypt.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres also praised the initiative and commended the Kingdom’s role in creating the network in his speech at the opening of the first UN General Assembly special session against corruption, in 2021.
Spain was appointed chair of the network’s Steering Committee, while Saudi Arabia became vice chair.
It is pertinent to mention that over the past three years, 219 anti-corruption agencies and global organizations, along with over 120 nations, joined the network, proving the success of the initiative.
