RIYADH: Saudi foreign ministry on Sunday urged its citizens to leave Lebanon ‘immediately’ as regional tensions recently soared.
The ministry in a statement, has reiterated its call for all Saudi nationals to avoid traveling to Lebanon.
It said the Kingdom’s embassy in Lebanon was monitoring the developments in the southern region of the country closely.
Amid fears of a war between Israel and Hezbollah, many countries have intensified their calls for their citizens to leave Lebanon. Some airlines have also suspended their flight operations to Lebanon.
The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked its citizens not to travel to Lebanon at this time for their safety and asked those staying in Lebanon to leave as early as possible.
Similarly, the US Embassy in Lebanon urged its citizens to leave the country amid growing fears of a war.
Regional tensions have increased after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas’ top leader, in Tehran on Wednesday, a day after an Israeli strike in Beirut killed Fuad Shukr, a senior Hezbollah commander.
Both Hamas and Iran have accused Israel of orchestrating the killing, which has sparked vows of retaliation and heightened tensions. The situation underscores the growing volatility in the Middle East and the potential for further escalation.
