RIYADH: Prince Faisal Bin Khalid Bin Sultan, the emir of the Northern Borders Region has appointed Dr. Al-Hanouf bint Marzouq Al-Qahtani as the secretary-general of Northern Border Council. Al-Qahtani is the first female to hold a position in the history of the council.

She is considered to be the second female to be named as the secretary-general of a regional council at the national level following the secretary-general of the Tabuk Region Council Dr. Kholoud Al-Khamis.
Dr. Al-Hanouf Al-Qahtani was born in Riyadh and did a Ph.D. in Emergency Medicine. She had worked in the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia. Dr. Al-Qahtani also worked as chief of the Ambulance and Emergency Department at the North Medical Tower in Arar. She was also the chief of the clinical review department.
She holds a fellowship in emergency medicine and accidents. She did a master’s in health care management from the University of Colorado, USA. She did several certificate courses including a professional certificate in Safety, Quality, Health Informatics, and Leadership (SQIL). She also did a professional certificate in project management from the University of California in Irvine, as well as a professional certificate in Risk Management and Governance.
