Saudi Aid Arrives in Afghanistan as Earthquake Relief Efforts Underway

KABUL: The first batch of humanitarian aid from Saudi Arabia has reached Afghanistan, marking a significant step in the relief efforts after the devastating earthquakes that struck the western province of Herat over the weekend. The Afghan Red Crescent Society confirmed the arrival of the Saudi aid and announced that it would be distributed to the affected people in Herat.

A series of powerful earthquakes hit western Afghanistan on Saturday, leaving a trail of destruction and despair. The disaster is feared to have killed more than 2,000 people, with approximately 1,200 people injured, and at least 1,300 houses destroyed.

KSrelief Donation for Afghanistan Quake Victims

The Saudi aid agency, KSrelief, has generously donated over 15,000 food packages valued at $2 million. These food packages will be distributed by the Afghan Red Crescent Society, KSrelief’s local partner in Afghanistan. Each package, weighing 62 kilograms, contains various food items aimed at providing essential sustenance to those affected by the earthquake.

“KSrelief has offered food items in aid for those affected by the earthquake in Zinda Jan district of western Herat province,” stated Irrfanullah Sharfzoi, the spokesman for the Afghan Red Crescent Society. “The center handed over 2,250 of 15,750 food packages of various food items worth $2 million to the Afghan Red Crescent Society on Monday.”

Expressing gratitude for the support, Maulvi Abdultif Sabit, the society’s deputy secretary-general, thanked KSrelief for its swift response and assistance during this challenging time.
