LONDON: While expressing concern over the state of cricket in Pakistan, former Pakistan cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz has appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to take notice of the affairs of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
During a press conference in London, Nawaz voiced his disappointment regarding the recent ban on cricket matters, stating that it would only exacerbate the existing issues. Nawaz believes that resorting to court proceedings would bring ridicule upon the nation. He emphasized the unfortunate timing of the controversy surrounding the appointment of the PCB chairman, which coincides with crucial tournaments.
Despite the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the revival of institutional cricket has not been achieved, lamented Nawaz. He expressed his willingness to share his expertise with young cricketers, particularly in the field of fast bowling.
PCB’s Decision to Hire Overseas Coaches
Nawaz also criticized the hiring of overseas coaches under the tenure of former PCB chairman Najam Sethi, deeming it a mistake. He credited Zaka Ashraf, a previous PCB chairman, for initiating the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Advocating for improved relations between Pakistan and India, Nawaz suggested that Pakistan should send a team to India. He further criticized former Prime Minister Imran Khan for ending institutional cricket in Pakistan, claiming that it has had a detrimental impact on the sport. Nawaz accused Najam Sethi of making cricket decisions based on political motives.
